October is celebration month for us! It’s our 14th birthday! In October 2008, Wriggle and Rhyme was born.

Every year when it’s our birthday, I reflect on the adventure so far. And what an extraordinary adventure it’s been! Like all good adventures, it’s full of heroes.

This week the focus is on one of our behind-the-scenes creative heroes – Bruce Retief

The man behind the music

Bruce and I have known each other since we were teenagers. So, we’ve watched each other grow up over the years.

Bruce has grown into a giant! He’s an exceptionally talented musician, who has gone all the way to Hollywood and back with his work. You can read more about his journey here – https://www.bruceretief.com

And the Oscar goes to …

It’s been humbling to work with someone of Bruce’s calibre.

In 2013, he was nominated for a prestigious ANNIE award for his original score on the animated feature ZAMBEZIA.

In 2014, he won the prestigious GOLDEN HORN award for his original score on the animated feature KUMBA.

Just this year, his latest feature film project, which he produced and edited won BEST SA FEATURE FILM at the Durban International Film Festival.

Bringing the musical adventures to life!

When I started Wriggle and Rhyme, I wanted original backing tracks for the songs that were being composed. Bruce was my first and only choice. Fortunately, he agreed to work with me!

He’s brought the musical side of the Wriggle and Rhyme programme to life, using his incredible talent and decades of experience. He has taken the quality of our musical adventures to the “next level”.

Together, we have worked on dozens of original songs, countless backing tracks as well as 4 original musical story CDs.

Our unique musical stories

Musical fun with froggy

When COVID hit in 2020, Bruce and I pulled together 4 episodes of “musical fun with froggy” as a way to connect with our customers during LOCKDOWN.

You can watch the first one here:

I’m incredibly grateful to have had the privilege of working with him over the past 14 years.

Thank you for the music!

As we celebrate our 14th birthday and the heroes in our own musical adventure, I’m saying a huge thank you to Bruce Retief.

Bruce – thank you for the music!
