At Wriggle and Rhyme we are passionate about the power of music as a catalyst for learning and development in young children.
Our classes are completely set to music, using a combination of songs and instrumental music.

Learning consideration
One of the joys of working with young children is they don’t have any filters yet. They speak their minds and explore their worlds without constraints.
This can be a really positive thing, but it can also present some challenges. Children need to learn consideration – the idea of looking after each other and each other’s property well.
Let’s get loud
When our musical instruments come out, we have a wonderful opportunity to help children begin to learn this skill.
When you give a child a drum, they will usually bang it so loudly, almost as if no-one else is around.
This can create sensory issues for those around them, and can also damage the instrument.

Beaters in the air
Because we believe in weaving emotional intelligence into everything we do, even beating a drum is an opportunity to show consideration.
We encourage the children to think about the way that they handle the instrument, and to show consideration to those around them too.
We have a lovely phrase “beaters in the air“, which helps the children to learn to control their impulses and play with consideration
Building emotional intelligence
We encourage the children to think through how our actions affect those around us, and how similar actions would make us feel. In doing this, the children learn to become more self-aware and build consideration for others.
In a world that is becoming increasing individualistic, this is a valuable skill.
Music education isn’t just about music
That’s our holistic view at Wriggle and Rhyme.
We view music-based learning as a treasure trove which can help in many areas of a child’s development.
What a privilege to share this passion with the children in our sphere!
