Wriggle and Rhyme is a music programme for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers. In each class we take our budding musicians on an imaginary musical adventure. We use puppets extensively in these musical adventures. That’s because we believe in the power of puppets as a teaching tool!

Stimulating imagination
Puppets can have a profound impact on teaching young children by making learning interactive, engaging, and fun. Young children are naturally drawn to our animated, colourful, and expressive characters, which make our puppets a great tool for holding their attention. Puppets help to create a safe and enjoyable environment where toddlers feel comfortable participating and exploring new ideas.

Language and communication
When used in educational settings, puppets can assist in teaching language and communication skills. By acting out stories, engaging in conversations, and (of course) singing songs, puppets can expand a child’s vocabulary and improve listening skills.
Interesting research on how puppet play can enhance speaking skills can be found HERE.

Emotional development
They also encourage toddlers to express their thoughts and feelings in a playful way, fostering emotional development.
Puppets can play a vital role in teaching social and emotional concepts. Through puppet interactions, young children can learn about empathy, sharing, and cooperation as they observe characters navigate various situations. This hands-on approach helps them understand social cues in a tangible way.
Puppets can also support the development of motor skills, as toddlers often imitate puppet movements or engage in puppet play themselves.

Overall, puppets are an incredibly creative tool that stimulate various aspects of a child’s learning.
They certainly help to make Wriggle and Rhyme’s musical adventures even more exciting and memorable!
